A streak of above average temperatures in Duluth in early January followed by a streak of below average temperatures in mid-January, and now we’re heading back into a milder period.

50% of days this month have been warmer than average(red) in Duluth compared to 45% of days which have been colder than average (blue).

One thing this arctic air has done is bring our average monthly temperatures for January closer to normal after being well above normal earlier this month, but with warmer temperatures expected the rest of this month, will likely see these temperature anomalies increase once again, how much above normal? Time will tell.

Note: The 3 areas outlined in black on the map below represent positive temperature anomalies this month.

Much of the western, central and southern U.S. are running well below average in the temperature department this month.
