Today’s high temperatures and departures from normal for January 27.

Ashland: 37 (+15 degrees above normal)
Brainerd: 36 (+14 degrees above normal)
Duluth: 34 (+14 degrees above normal)
Hibbing: 31 (+14 degrees above normal)
International Falls: 30 (+14 degrees above normal)

Western portions of the Northland say from around Bigfork south to Aitkin and west to the Brainerd Lakes saw the clouds give way to sunshine today, but locations farther east continued to be socked in by low clouds today.

Guess what? More areas of fog are likely in the Northland tonight into Sunday, but we should see this fog burn off by Sunday afternoon with at least a little bit of sun possible Sunday afternoon in some parts of the Northland.

A strong mid and upper-level low is forecast to drop south/southeast out of central Canada reaching the central Great Lakes on Tuesday but most of the precipitation with this system should stay east of the Northland on Tuesday, but we could see a few rain or snow showers in parts of the area Monday as a cold front passes through the area.

Another wet system impacting parts of the Midwest, Ohio Valley into the southeast U.S today as low pressure near Nashville, TN tracks toward the northeast.

Not much going on weatherwise in the Northland as we get into early February as our area will be controlled by a strong upper-level ridge while an active pattern continues from the western to the southern U.S., and also including parts of the eastern U.S.

All in all, a very typical El Nino winter pattern.
