A mild winter continues with much below normal snowfall in the Northland.
Des Moines, Green Bay, Omaha, and Chicago are just a few cities that have had more snow this winter compared to what we’ve seen in Duluth so far this winter, while Dodge City, KS is only running -0.8 inches behind Duluth’s snowfall total this winter.

No surprise here that the winter of 2023-2024 in the upper Midwest and in parts of the northern Plains has been a mild one so far, and in some locations a record mildest winter through late January.

One storm track we’ve seen this winter has been across the Midwest which has been where the stronger systems have tracked this winter, while another storm track has favored the upper Great Lakes where generally weaker clipper systems have moved through on occasion this winter. Overall, this is a pretty typical El Nino pattern that we’ve seen this winter.
You can definitely pick out the two main storm tracks we’ve seen so far this winter on the map below.
