Today’s low-pressure system took a track significantly further north than the computer models had predicted in recent days. Rather than a low-pressure area moving northeast from southwest Minnesota, there is now a low-pressure system over northwest Minnesota. This system is anticipated to move slowly east-southeast, passing south of Duluth around daybreak on Friday and arriving in northeast Wisconsin by Friday evening.
Today, a consistent band of rain swept across much of the Northland, persisting for approximately 2 to 4 hours at each location. As this rainband gradually moved northward throughout the afternoon, it left behind patches of drizzle and fog, particularly near Lake Superior. Additionally, some areas of the Northland experienced breaks in the cloud cover this afternoon, indicative of the system’s dry slot.
Going forward, intermittent rain is expected to continue in the Northland area tonight and into Friday. This rainfall will likely be sporadic, in contrast to the widespread rain observed today.
Intermittent showers might continue through Saturday, yet the weekend outlook for the region is predominantly dry, with temperatures anticipated to be in the 70s, reaching up to around 80 on both Saturday and Sunday.

Additional rainfall of approximately 0.10 to 0.50 inches is expected in northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin through late Friday afternoon. The North Shore of Lake Superior may receive an inch or more, with the majority of it anticipated to fall this evening.
