The Northland is expected to experience a prolonged dry weather pattern this week, extending into next week and potentially through mid-October.

The absence of rainfall will likely exacerbate drought conditions and elevate the risk of fires in the region.

Today, a cold front is advancing. As of 4 PM, it stretched from northeast to east central and then to southern Minnesota. Satellite imagery shows a band of clouds delineating the cold front, yet there has been minimal to no rainfall associated with this front.

Ahead of the cold front this afternoon, warm temperatures ranging from the 70s to 80s and gusty south to southwest winds were prevalent, while cooler temperatures in the 50s and 60s accompanied by gusty west to northwest winds followed behind the front.

It appears we will witness another upper-level ridge intensifying across the Northern Plains next week. With this ridge established, the likelihood of receiving any rain is minimal to nonexistent for the Northland.

The Northland can expect above-average temperatures next week. For early October, this could translate to highs in the 60s and 70s for northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin.

Certainly, there won’t be any significant drops in temperature through late next week, though some nights may be chilly with potential for frost. However, with afternoon temperatures in the 60s and 70s at this time of year, it’s hard to complain.
