Potential First Snow in Northland This Sunday Night

While the probability is low, there’s still a possibility that areas of the Northland might see their season’s first snowflakes between Sunday night and Monday, as a cold air mass moves into the region for a short duration.

The weather forecast suggests that 850mb temperatures in the Northland will drop to their lowest seasonal levels, ranging from -5 to -9°C, from Sunday night to Monday morning. Concurrently, thickness values are expected to fall to around 528, which is sufficiently low to support frozen precipitation, provided that surface temperatures are adequately cold.
