Winter Forecast 2024-2025: Colder Conditions for Northeast Minnesota and Northwest Wisconsin

This is the updated winter forecast from the CanSIPS model, covering the three-month period of December, January, and February.

The forecast model predicts colder than average temperatures this winter for northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin. While there may be occasional milder periods through February, the general trend indicates below normal temperatures for the season.

Blue: Below normal temperatures
Orange and red: Above normal temperatures

Regarding precipitation, the CanSIPS model predicts near-normal levels for this winter in northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin.

Yellow: Below normal precipitation
Green: Above normal precipitation

What does a normal winter consist of in Duluth?

-Typically, Duluth experiences 35 nights with subzero temperatures between December and February. Last winter, however, there were only 11 nights when the temperature dropped below zero.

-The average winter temperature in Duluth is 14.6 degrees Fahrenheit. However, the average temperature last winter was 24.9 degrees Fahrenheit, which is an extraordinary increase of 10.3 degrees above the norm.

-Typically, Duluth receives 50.6 inches of snow from December through February. However, last winter, the area saw just 15.7 inches of snowfall.
