Weather Today: Cool Temperatures and Light Showers

With lingering cloud cover and breezy northwest winds, surface temperatures will only gradually rise, reaching around 60°F by late afternoon.

This morning, northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin are blanketed with clouds, offering only a few occasional glimpses of the sun throughout the day. Light showers are moving through parts of the area, and in just a few months, these rain showers will transform into snow showers and flurries.

Temperatures at 5000 feet, or the 850mb level of the atmosphere, are hovering between +2 and +3°C across the Northland this morning. These temperatures aren’t expected to change much today.

As I mentioned a few days ago, I don’t think the record cold high temperatures for today will be broken, but either way, it’s going to be a cool late summer day in the Northland.

These are the record low maximum temperatures for August 24th.

International Falls: 51 set in 1950
Duluth: 55 set in 1914
Hibbing: 55 set in 2015
Brainerd: 56 set in 1915
Ashland: 59 set in 2015
