What to Expect After Labor Day: Cooler Temperatures Ahead

Published by

Mild temperatures will persist through Labor Day, but cooler weather is expected mid-week and will last for a few days as a mid and upper-level low and trough intensify over the Great Lakes.

The GFS model indicates that 500mb heights could drop to between -3 and -5 sigma near the upper trough by the middle of next week, which is quite remarkable.

High temperatures might stay in the 40s in parts of northeast Minnesota later next week, but otherwise, most areas can expect highs mainly in the 50s on Thursday and Friday.

We’re expecting rain in the Northland next week, beginning with a cold front on Tuesday and continuing with an upper trough later in the week. The amount and coverage of the rain are yet to be determined.

A few isolated showers have popped up in far northern Minnesota and the Arrowhead today, and similar weather is expected on Sunday and Labor Day, with isolated showers and possibly a thunderstorm. These showers won’t be very organized, but where they do occur, a brief downpour is possible.
