Rain continues tonight but will diminish overnight.
A few showers are expected on Friday and Saturday, but the rain coverage won’t be as widespread as it is this evening.
Gusty northwest winds are expected on Friday following tonight’s clipper system. Northwest winds will reach gusts of 20 to 35 mph before easing Friday night.
Cool temperatures will persist through the weekend, with Friday being the chilliest day featuring highs in the 40s and 50s. On Saturday and Sunday, highs will generally remain in the 50s, though a few spots could hit 60 degrees.
International Falls narrowly missed breaking their record low for September 4th, recording a chilly 33 degrees this morning. The record low of 31 degrees was set back in 1917.
Hibbing, Minnesota set a new record for the coldest high temperature today, reaching only 50 degrees. The previous record of 54 degrees was set on September 4, 1962.
Brainerd, Minnesota set a new record for the coldest high temperature today, with a chilly 52 degrees. The previous record for the coldest high on September 4th was 53 degrees, established back in 1935.
It’s a rainy night across much of northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin, but the rain will gradually taper off from west to east as the night goes on.

Rainfall amounts of about 0.1 to 0.5 inches are expected across much of northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin tonight, with the heavier totals more likely along and south of Highway 2.

The current weather pattern is dynamic, with a strong mid to upper-level low situated north of Lake Superior, while a robust wave, resembling a clipper system, moves southeast to the southwest of that upper low tonight.
