Drought conditions are worsening across the region, as this week’s drought monitor shows 18% of Minnesota in moderate drought, up from 12% last week. Additionally, 62% of the state is now classified as abnormally dry, an increase from 57% the previous week.

In Wisconsin, 10% of the state is experiencing moderate drought, an increase from 6% last week, while 69% remains abnormally dry, unchanged from the previous week.

Over the past month, we’ve seen a 1 to 2 class degradation in the drought monitor class.

Duluth is currently -1.34 inches below normal in precipitation for this month, -2.29 inches since September 1st, and -8.37 inches since January 1st.
Over the past 30 days, much of northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin has received only about 5% to 25% of their typical precipitation levels.
