Flooding and Torrential Rain Hit Parts of the Northland (4/23–4/24/26)

The Arrowhead and North Shore regions, extending into northwest Wisconsin, saw some heavy rain from Thursday afternoon into early Friday morning. Several rounds of showers and thunderstorms moved over the same spots for a few hours, bringing rainfall totals of about 1 to 2 inches or more.

Local storm reports for April 23–24, 2026

  • 12:30 p.m., April 24: Flood. 1 NNW Beaver Bay, MN (Lake County). Beaver River inundated the south approach to SHT/snowmobile trail bridge with a foot or more of moving water. Peak of bridge is still dry. Superior Hiking Trail along north side of river going east from the bridge has areas of inundation with moving water where it is closest to the Beaver River.
  • 10:30 a.m., April 24: Flood. 4 WNW Ashland, WI (Ashland County). Bayfield County dispatch reported water on Cherryville Road just east of Hwy 13.
  • 10:00 a.m., April 24: Flood. 1 S Sanborn, WI (Ashland County). Water over County Hwy E on the corner with County Hwy C. Appears to be mostly standing water covering half of the road on the north side.
  • 8:00 a.m., April 24: Flood. 5 SE Wales, MN (Lake County). Water inundating Boomer Road for an approximately quarter mile stretch, just east of intersection with Hwy 2. Appears to be backwater from the Little Gooseberry River. At least a foot or two of water.
  • 7:40 a.m., April 24: Flood. 1 E Odanah, WI (Ashland County). At least several inches of water flowing over Maple Street from Denomie Creek in Odanah.
  • 8:15 p.m., April 23: Flood. 2 SE Benoit, WI (Bayfield County). Water accumulation in fields and water swelling to banks on creeks.
