Scattered showers and thunderstorms moved slowly across parts of the Northland Friday afternoon into the evening. These storms brought heavy rainfall, and in some locations strong damaging wind gusts and even some hail.
Friday’s highest rainfall totals were 2.15 inches in Burnett, MN, 1.92 inches in Spooner, WI, and 1.07 inches at the Duluth Airport.
Duluth has had two rainfall events over an inch this week, with 1.51 inches on June 29th and 1.07 inches on July 3rd.

6:42 PM: Thunderstorm Wind Damage. 2 NNW Wilkinson, MN (Cass County). Tree down. Uprooted tree at base of tree meeting roots. Large healthy tree that was at least 18-inch diameter if not more.
4:23 PM: Thunderstorm Wind Damage. 3 N Sawyer, MN (Carlton County). Four trees down on east side of Big Lake. Noted as healthy trees. One snapped about 10 feet above base and two uprooted.
