The week ahead promises mostly dry conditions across northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin, with Thursday bringing a few scattered showers, though nothing that suggests a drenching downpour.

Expect a touch of frost Monday morning if you’re up in far northern Minnesota or the Arrowhead—temperatures could dip to around 33 degrees. Looks like we’re in for a few more chilly nights this week, especially if you’re a bit inland from Lake Superior.

It was a blustery Sunday near Lake Superior, with northeast winds gusting between 15 and 30 mph, and Duluth Sky Harbor Airport recording a peak gust of 37 mph.

Temperatures at the 850mb level are cooling to approximately +2 to +5°C over Lake Superior, while lake surface temperatures remain considerably warmer, ranging from +12 to +15°C. This pronounced thermal contrast has resulted in the development of lake-effect clouds progressing southwest across the lake, particularly observed from this morning through early afternoon.

With similar 850mb temperatures expected through Tuesday and persistent northeast winds, occasional low-level cloudiness is likely near Lake Superior, with a slight chance of a few brief lake-effect showers.

This morning, clouds moved off Lake Superior, and by the afternoon, they had thinned, replaced by wispy high clouds streaming in from the west.

Two distinct systems are affecting the western U.S. today: one over Wyoming and another spinning offshore from California. The Wyoming system is unlikely to bring any rain to the Northland in the next few days, while the California system could produce some rainfall in the area later this week.
