A burst of warm air and moisture, along with a southwesterly low-level jet picking up to about 30-40 knots and a warm front pushing east from western Minnesota, will bring scattered showers to parts of northeast and east-central Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin for a few hours tonight, with the best chance of rain before midnight. Some weak elevated instability moving in from the west could even spark an isolated thunderstorm this evening, though widespread storms aren’t expected.

A narrow corridor in our area will see rain tonight, with amounts ranging from 0.05 to 0.25 inches, while far northern Minnesota and the Arrowhead can expect little to no precipitation.

The best chance for rain in Duluth tonight is expected between about 7 PM and 11 PM.

It’s shaping up to be a warm weekend in the Northland as the weather pattern amplifies, with a trough moving into the Pacific Northwest and another system, possibly tropical, tracking from the Gulf into the southeastern U.S. This setup will shift upper-level winds to the southwest, bringing temperatures into the 70s on Saturday. Sunday’s highs will hinge on the position of a frontal boundary—if it stays far enough north, more 70s are likely, but if it dips farther south, a sharp temperature split could form, with 50s in the north and 70s in the south. With enough sunshine, a few spots might even reach the 80s this weekend.

Record highs in northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin this weekend (October 10-11) are in the 80s, so it’s still uncertain whether they’ll be broken.
