The snow event early This Morning pretty much fell in the area that was suppose to get it per model data, so that’s always nice to see, especially when you’re dealing with a fairly narrow north/south snow band which was the case early Today, sometimes the computer models struggle with such narrow snow bands, but that really wasn’t the case with most of the forecast models last night.
Mostly sunny to partly sunny skies covered Northern Minnesota Today while skies were generally overcast elsewhere. Surface weather map as of 4 PM featured high pressure of 1024-1028mb stretching from Manitoba to Western Quebec with low pressure of 1000mb over Eastern Colorado.
A chilly day in our area as high temperatures topped out in the mid 30s to low 40s. Winds were out of the east or northeast at 5 to 15 mph with higher gusts near Lake Superior.

Short Term Forecast – Confidence: Medium to High.
Tonight (April 6)
High pressure will remain to our north with low pressure to our south and southwest. Partly to mostly cloudy skies will cover the Northland Tonight with some light snow, rain, or freezing rain possible at times mainly in Western-Southern areas. Low temperatures will be in the 20s to lower 30s with east or northeast winds at 5 to 15 mph with higher gusts near Lake Superior.
Tuesday and Tuesday Night (April 7)
Little change in the overall weather pattern with high pressure to our north and low pressure well to our south. Partly-mostly cloudy skies will continue this period with some snow, rain, and mixed precipitation affecting portions of the Northland from time to time. High temperatures on Tuesday will be in the 30s and 40s with lows Tuesday Night in the 20s and 30s. East or northeast winds will continue at 10 to 20 mph with higher gusts near Lake Superior.

Wednesday through Friday (April 8-10)
There could be some snow or mixed precip around parts of the area Wednesday AM otherwise the rest of Wednesday looks dry at this time. A low pressure system will move out of the Rockies and into the Central Plains between Wednesday-Thursday, this system will then head northeast toward the Central/Eastern Great Lakes region later this week — Based on this track, the most significant precipitation would remain south/southeast of our local area from Wednesday Night through Friday. Northeast Minnesota and Northwest Wisconsin could still see some rain or possibly a bit of snow at times later this week but right now this does not look like a real big deal for our area.
High temperatures from Wednesday through Friday are forecast to be in the 30s and 40s with lows Wednesday Night and Thursday Night mainly in the 30s but some spots up North could drop into the 20s.
Long Range Forecast – Confidence: Low to Medium.
(April 11-16)
Saturday (11th) is looking dry at the moment. Rain chances return off an on between the 12th-16th as one or more low pressure systems affect the region, but these systems could easily shift farther south sparing the Northland, kind of what were seeing this week. Time will tell.
