Despite temperatures only in the mid 30s and low 40s in Southern Minnesota Today there’s been quite a few thunderstorms This Afternoon which have been spitting out quite a bit of lightning.
A few inches of snow are possible Tonight in Northern Minnesota. The map below is the snowfall forecast per 18z HopWRF model. The blue, yellow and red colors indicate potential for 1-4″ snow amounts by daybreak Wednesday.
Between Tonight’s precipitation event, and another one which could hit the area Wednesday Night/Thursday — We could pick up a quarter to half inch of much needed moisture here in the Northland. Location: Northeast Minnesota and Northwest Wisconsin
Weather pattern has changed little Today. High pressure continues to sit to our north with low pressure well to our south. A cluster of showers and thunderstorms pushed east/northeast through South Central Minnesota Today, a few of these storms were severe with a handful reports of hail down in far Southern Minnesota. Here in the Northland there really wasn’t much precipitation, just a few areas of light sleet, rain, or snow. High temperatures were in the 30s to lower 40s with east or northeast winds at 10-20 mph with gusts over 30 mph near Lake Superior.

Tonight (April 7)
Some parts of the area will see some snow or a wintry mix of precipitation Tonight as an upper level disturbance moves east/northeast into the Upper Midwest, otherwise will have mostly cloudy skies Tonight with lows in the 20s and 30s. Winds will be out of the east or northeast at 10 to 20 mph with gusts over 30 mph continuing near Lake Superior.
Wednesday and Wednesday Night (April 8)
Lingering areas of snow or a wintry mix of precipitation is possible Tomorrow Morning otherwise the rest of Wednesday looks dry under partly sunny-mostly cloudy skies. High temperatures will be in the 30s and 40s with east or northeast winds at 10 to 20 mph.
Low pressure moves out of the Rockies and into the Central Plains Wednesday Night — An area of rain or mixed precipitation is forecast to lift north into our area out ahead of this system Tomorrow Night. Low temperatures will mainly be in the 30s with east or northeast winds at 10 to 20 mph.

Thursday through Saturday (April 9-11)
An area of low pressure will lift northeast out of the Central Plains on Thursday, this low is forecast to move over the Central/Eastern Great Lakes region by Thursday Night or early Friday. The most significant precipitation associated with this storm system is expected to stay south/southeast of the Northland, but most of our area should get at least some rain or a bit of wet snow on Thursday into early Friday, the rest of Friday should be dry, and that dry weather should carry over into Saturday the way it looks now.
High temperatures on Thursday are forecast to be in the 30s and 40s with lows Thursday Night in the 20s and 30s. Highs on Friday will be in the 40s with a few 50s also possible, lows Friday Night will be in the 30s. Highs on Saturday are forecast to be in the 40s and 50s, with a few 60s even possible.
Long Range Forecast – Confidence: Medium.
(April 12-17)
A low pressure system could affect the Northland on Sunday-Monday (12th-13th) with possible rain showers — There’s even a chance for an isolated thunderstorm or two on Sunday. Another system is possible sometime around the 15th-17th with a chance for rain at that time. Near to above average temperatures are forecast from the 12th-17th.
