What looked like a mild spring weekend a few days ago has changed considerably! East winds will keep it cool near Lake Superior Saturday and possibly on Sunday as well. It will be milder farther inland this weekend with 60s to near 70 degree temperatures possible across the southern half of Minnesota, so if you want some real spring warmth this weekend head south!

It does look like we’re entering into a more unsettled weather pattern into early next week with chances for precipitation Thursday night-Friday morning, and again from Friday night through Monday.
By Monday much of the Northland could pick up a quarter to half inch of precip with locally higher amounts possible especially over east-central Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin.

Weather Synopsis for Northeast Minnesota and Northwest Wisconsin
A lot of sunshine across the area this afternoon with seasonable temperatures in the mid 30s in northern Minnesota and the low to mid 40s in east-central Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin. Winds were still a tad on the brisk side today with westerly breezes of 10 to 20 mph.
RAP model analysis from 5 PM Wednesday showed a NW flow aloft covering the upper Midwest between an upper low over northeast Canada and a trough which is moving east onto the southern-central Plains. 850mb temperatures were on the cool side ranging from -20C in northern Ontario province to -8C at Duluth, Minnesota to +2C at Omaha, Nebraska.
Tonight: Mainly clear and cool with lows in the teens and 20s with single digits likely in some parts of the area. An area of high pressure will pass over the region tonight with west winds diminishing during the night.
Thursday: Increasing cloudiness during the day with winds shifting to the south which will lead to some warm air advection and an increase in moisture. Some light snow or rain is possible across the area by Thursday night due to the warm/moist advection pattern well northeast of a warm front. Highs Thursday will range from the 30s in northeast Minnesota to the 40s and lower 50s elsewhere.
Friday: Some light rain or snow is possible early in the day, otherwise mostly cloudy to partly sunny skies with highs in the 40s and 50s.
…Looking Ahead…
No major spring storms are expected to impact the Northland through early next week, but there will be an area of low pressure which will move east out of the northern Plains Friday night through Sunday, and this system will bring occasional rain to northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin from Friday night through Sunday night. Note: A few thunderstorms are also possible especially Saturday night as elevated instability builds to around 100-300 J/kg.
