Cold tonight; little milder Thursday and Friday; 50s return Saturday

…Record Cold in the Northland on April 14, 2020…

*Brainerd Minnesota – Record low high temperature of 27 degrees, the previous record was 31 degrees set in 2018.

*Hibbing, Minnesota – Record low high temperature of 26 degrees, the previous record was 30 degrees set in 2018.

*Ashland, Wisconsin – Record low high temperature of 29 degrees, this ties the record for the date which was last set in 2018, and also in 1893.

Note: On Tuesday, Duluth and International Falls both had their 2nd coldest high temperature on record for April 14.

Also on April 14, 2020 – Duluth and Hibbing had a top 5 coldest minimum temperature on record for April 14.

Temperatures will slowly modify the next few days with 850mb temperatures of around -12C this afternoon, climbing to around -6C by Friday afternoon.

The second half of April is looking drier than normal across northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin with no strong signals showing up in model guidance for any major storm systems impacting our area for the next 2 weeks.

It is severe weather awareness week in Minnesota and Wisconsin, and on Thursday, April 16 we have the Tornado Watch/Warning drills. …Weather Summary…

Isolated snow showers and flurries will come to an end this evening with skies becoming mostly clear overnight. Cold once again tonight with lows in the single digits, teens and 20s.

Partly to mostly sunny Thursday with highs in the 30s to lower 40s.

Winds will be out of the west or northwest at 5 to 15 mph tonight and Thursday with stronger gusts.

Dry on Friday with highs in the 40s with winds shifting to the southwest.

Milder day of the upcoming weekend looks to be on Saturday with highs in the mid 40s to mid 50s (back to normal for mid-April) Could see a few showers though later in the day as a cold front moves through the area.
