A powerful winter storm hit the Northland from Wednesday into early Thursday morning bringing a rapid drop in temperatures, damaging winds, heavy snow and blizzard conditions. Although snowfall totals did end up lower compared to what I was forecasting in some parts of the area, the other impacts this storm brought to the area were significant, with the rapid drop in temperatures, strong winds and times of blizzard conditions being the most significant ones that impacted all of northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin. The greatest snowfall accumulation was over a portion of far eastern Minnesota into parts of far northwest Wisconsin, and also along portions of the North Shore and Arrowhead – These areas picked up >8″ of snow.
