Smoke plumes from the Greenwood fire, and other fires burning north of the border over the Quectico Provincial Park in Ontario Canada have gotten denser on satellite imagery this afternoon, and these plumes of smoke are making their way out in western Lake Superior. As winds become northeast late tonight and Thursday will likely see some of that smoke move southwest down the lake while impacting Duluth and Superior, although it remains to be seen if Thursday’s smoke event will be as bad as it was on Tuesday.

An Air Quality Alert has been issued through 8 PM Friday, August 27, 2021 for northeast Minnesota, including the cities of Duluth, Cloquet, Hibbing, International Falls, Grand Rapids, Ely, Virginia, Hoyt Lakes, Babbitt, Isabella, Two Harbors, Silver Bay and Grand Marais
