At least three clipper systems through early next week – See timing below.
1: Late Friday afternoon-early Saturday morning
2: Saturday evening
3: Sunday evening-Monday morning
The greatest chances for some accumulating snow in the Northland will be with the system late Friday afternoon-early Saturday morning, and with the one Sunday evening-Monday morning. The system for Saturday evening takes a more southerly route and may miss the majority of the Northland the way it looks now.
TIMING FRIDAY’S SNOW
Friday morning looks dry in northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin.
Snow is forecast to spread NW-SE across the area Friday afternoon-early Friday evening, reaching western portions of the area between 1 PM-4 PM Friday, and reaching northwest Wisconsin mainly after 6 PM Friday.
Snow diminishes from W-E later Friday evening into early Saturday morning.
For Duluth — Snow begins around 4 PM-6 PM Friday and tapers off around 11 PM-1 AM Friday night/Saturday morning. Total snowfall accumulations up to 2 inches.
18z NAM 3km model simulated radar forecast valid Noon Friday to Noon Saturday (snow in blue colors)

Here’s my snowfall forecast for Friday’s event — Looking like a general 1-to-2-inch snowfall for much of the Northland based on forecast precipitation totals and snowfall ratios per model guidance. This should be a fluffy snow with ratios possibly >17:1.

- 18 nights so far this winter with a subzero low temperature in Duluth (average for a winter season Dec-Feb is 32 subzero nights).
- Lowest temperature so far this winter in Duluth is -23F on January 1st.
