March has been a cold month up to this point, but things will be changing a bit the rest of this week with milder temperatures likely in the Northland.
Average monthly temperature departures for March 2022 (thru the 14th) are running -7 to nearly -11 degrees below average in northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin — See list below.
International Falls -10.9 degrees below average
Hibbing -9.0 degrees below average
Duluth -7.5 degrees below average
Ashland -7.3 degrees below average
Brainerd -7.0 degrees below average
Widespread 40s are likely in northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin on Tuesday with a chance for an isolated 50-degree temperature. It’ll be even warmer across southern Minnesota with highs in the 50s to lower 60s on Tuesday.
Note: You have to go back to Christmas Eve, December 24, 2021, for the last time Duluth had a high temperature of 40 degrees or warmer (high of 43) So yeah, it’s been a while, but we should hit 40 on Tuesday.

There isn’t a whole lot of precipitation in the forecast across the Northland this week.
There will be a low passing north of us on Wednesday while a cold front moves through the area. There could be a few showers of rain or mixed precipitation that accompanies this system, but widespread precipitation is unlikely in the Northland on Wednesday. Will likely have to wait until next week for better chances for some precipitation.
Long range computer models continue to hint at another pattern change coming up for next week.
The weather for next week could turn more unsettled in the Northland as we see a trough of low-pressure setup across the Great Lakes and Plains.
Whether or not we see a stronger storm system develop and impact our area next week is highly uncertain today, but chances for at least some rain and possibly some snow are increasing for next week (March 21 and beyond).

Warmer temperatures this week look to be replaced by a return to colder temperatures as we progress through next week.
Blue and green colors represent below normal temperatures on the loop below.
