A few showers possible Friday and again Saturday; first 80 of 2022 possible in Duluth middle of next week

8:32 PM Thursday, June 9, 2022

Friday will feature another day of mild temperatures with daytime highs mostly in the 70s, however if cloud cover becomes more persistent along with a few showers, then we may see slightly cooler temperatures in the 60s in parts of the Northland.

A lake wind returns this weekend meaning cooler temperatures near Lake Superior (highs in the 50s Saturday and Sunday) but inland from Lake Superior 20+ miles or so, highs in the 70s will continue Saturday and also on Sunday.

It does look like will finally record our first 80-degree temperature of 2022 in Duluth next week, most likely in the June 14-16 time frame. The average date for the first 80 in Duluth is May 22nd.

The weather pattern does look to become a little more active at times over the next several days with a few chances for rain showers and possibly a few thunderstorms too, but widespread heavy rain and severe weather looks unlikely at least through early next week.

The last time Duluth picked up a quarter inch or more of rain was on May 30th (0.56″).

A few showers are possible in parts of the Northland on Friday with slightly greater coverage of showers possible late Friday night through the day Saturday, but there continues to be some differences in the computer models on where most of the rain sets up on Saturday, although the trend has been for more of a southward shift in the rain on Saturday with central Minnesota into western Wisconsin possibly getting the bulk of the rain.

18z NAM 3km model simulated radar forecast valid 7 AM Friday through 1 PM Saturday.

Rainfall Totals through late Saturday night.

NWS Blend of Models continues to show lower rain totals vs. the Euro model through Saturday night, but both models agree on keeping the main swath of rain across central Minnesota into Wisconsin with lower rainfall amounts for northern Minnesota, Arrowhead, North Shore and far northern Wisconsin.
