Cool temperatures for now, but warmer temps arrive next week with a few 80-degree days possible mid-late next week

There won’t be a whole lot of change in the weather through Labor Day.

Cool temperatures will continue especially near Lake Superior with highs in the 60s Sunday and Monday while inland locations warm into the low to mid 70s.

The entire Northland will then see a period of warm temperatures mid to late next week with highs in the mid 70s to low 80s from September 6-9.

There is a possibility for some low cloud/fog development in parts of the Northland late tonight/Sunday morning, and again Sunday night/Monday morning, and there is also a chance for some patchy frost early Sunday morning in parts of the Northland (well inland from Lake Superior), but a widespread killing frost/freeze is unlikely.

As expected, a much cooler air mass moved into the Northland today with temperatures this afternoon running about 10 to nearly 25 degrees cooler compared to Friday afternoon’s temperatures, with the biggest difference occurring near Lake Superior due to a gusty NE wind today.

Temperatures are mostly in the mid 60s to around 70 in northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin this afternoon, with lower 60s common near Lake Superior.

Much of the upcoming week will be dominated by a large upper-level ridge which will cover areas from the western US into the northern US, but there is a chance will see at least a brief breakdown in the pattern later next week as a trough tries to push east out of the northern Plains sometime in the September 9-11 time frame, but there is considerable uncertainty in the computer models regarding the strength of this system and whether or not it would even bring any rain to the Northland.

NWS Blend of Models shows any rain remaining over northwest Minnesota late next week/next weekend while it stays mostly dry in much of the Northland through next Sunday morning the way it looks now.
