A quick shot of snow and mixed precipitation is on the way for this evening into early Tuesday morning.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until Midnight tonight for portions of northeast and east-central Minnesota and far northwest Wisconsin including the cities of Pine City, Hinckley, Moose Lake, Cloquet, Duluth, Two Harbors, Silver Bay, Superior, Solon Springs, Danbury, Grantsburg, Siren, Minong, Spooner, Shell Lake, Cable, Washburn, Bayfield and Port Wing.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 3 AM Tuesday for the Arrowhead of Minnesota including the cities of Tofte, Lutsen, Grand Marais and Hovland.
Plan on slippery road conditions in the advisory area tonight, but road conditions should improve during the day Tuesday as temperatures climb into the 30s.
Here’s my snowfall forecast for tonight.
For Duluth — Total snowfall accumulations of around 2 to 3 inches are expected tonight.
A light glaze of ice due to freezing rain is possible tonight (pink areas on map)
Stronger vertical lift (outlined in yellow on map) will move quickly north/east out of southern Minnesota this evening, and as this area of enhanced lift moves over parts of the Northland this evening will likely see a period of moderate to possibly heavy snowfall rates or a mix of snow/rain/sleet.
Most of the snow or mix of precipitation will see in the Northland out of this system will occur tonight, especially before Midnight with some lingering snow showers or flurries possible overnight.
For Duluth — Snow from around 6 PM to 11 PM tonight. Snow could mix with sleet or rain for a brief time.

Goes-16 sandwich satellite loop showing colder cloud tops (yellow colors) developing late this afternoon over south-central Minnesota which is indicative of some convective like elements to the precipitation.

Energy approaching from the Dakotas with some additional energy lifting northeast out of Iowa will bring a quick duration snow event to parts of the Northland tonight. Also of note is a powerful low-pressure system over the Atlantic Ocean today.
A stronger area of low pressure is forecast to lift northeast out of the Southern Plains during the middle of this week, but this system looks like it will remain far enough to the southeast of the Northland to produce any snow in our area on Thursday as low pressure lifts northeast out of west-central Illinois, but a secondary system (clipper like) approaching from the northwest could bring a little snow to parts of the Northland Thursday and Thursday night.
