Temperatures at the head of Lake Superior were running -20 to -30 degrees colder late this afternoon compared to the temperatures from late Thursday afternoon thanks to a stronger northeast wind today.

A gusty northeast wind will continue near Lake Superior and in the Twin Ports this weekend with the strongest winds occurring Saturday into early Sunday with wind gusts of 25 to around 40 mph. Winds should start to diminish some by Sunday afternoon, and will also see the wind direction shift from the northeast to the west by Monday morning which will help boost temperatures into the 70s on Monday, but before then temperatures will be on the cool side with highs in the 40s within about 15-20 miles of Lake Superior, and in the 50s on top of the hill in Duluth for both Saturday and Sunday.

Milder temperatures will continue this weekend well inland from Lake Superior with highs in the 60s to lower 70s.

Sunday looks like the sunnier day of the weekend, but even on Saturday we could see some sunshine break through the clouds at times across the Northland.

Also of note, a building/expanding ridge across western Canada with temperatures in the 80s as far north as Hay River in the Northwest Territories in Canada today while snow is falling on the eastern shores of Hudson Bay Canada with temperatures in the 30s this afternoon.

HRRR model radar forecast through 7 AM Sunday.

Much of the rain this weekend remains over western and southern Minnesota into southwest Wisconsin.
