Some parts of the Northland did get some rain Friday night and early Saturday morning but here in the Twin Ports the rain missed us, again.
May 18th — The last time the Duluth Airport received at least a quarter inch of rain (0.27″). Over 3 weeks ago and counting!
This pattern is relentless!
If you live in Duluth and are hoping for rain, well I’ve got bad news as it looks mainly dry for at least the next 5 to 7 days. At some point this pattern will break, but for now there are no signs of it breaking. There’s an old saying in weather, “drought begets drought”.
The other big story today (really isn’t one though because it’s been happening for weeks now) would be the temperatures as they are running about -25 to -30 degrees colder this afternoon compared to Friday afternoon, this is especially true near Lake Superior due to a gusty northeast wind coming right off the big ice cube today.
A northeast wind continues on Sunday, but it should be quite a bit lighter compared to what we saw today (Saturday), and as a result temperatures should be slightly warmer tomorrow with highs in the 60s on top of the hill in Duluth, and around 60 closer to Lake Superior.
Monday and Tuesday are looking warmer in the Twin Ports with offshore winds and highs in the 70s with a few 80s even possible on Tuesday.
Some parts of the Northland will have temperatures in the 30s early Sunday morning which will lead to some patchy frost inland from Lake Superior.

Here’s a look at radar estimated rainfall totals from Friday evening-early Saturday morning.

Model trends aren’t look very good for getting much rain in northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin possibly all the way through next weekend.
