Drought continues to expand in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Here’s the latest drought monitor as of June 13, 2023.
Minnesota
77% of the state is abnormally dry, this is up from 72% last week.
18% of the state is in moderate drought, this is up from 12% last week.
2% of the state is in severe drought, this is up from 0% last week.

Wisconsin
90% of the state is abnormally dry, this is up from 88% last week, and 0% 3 months ago.
46% of the state is in moderate drought, this is up from 25% last week, and 0% 3 months ago.

4-week drought monitor class change.
June 13, 2023, compared to May 16, 2023.

Additional precipitation totals of up to 3 inches are needed in all of northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin to pretty much eliminate the current drought conditions.

A crisp late spring night ahead of us as temperatures fall into the mid 30s to mid 40s in the Northland. Note — Patchy frost is possible early tomorrow morning inland from Lake Superior.
Looking further ahead features a warmer pattern once again with highs in the 70s Friday, 70s to lower 80s Saturday and Sunday, and mainly in the 80s next week. Temperatures will remain cooler near Lake Superior (within about 15-20 miles of the lake) Friday through much of next week as will continue to see easterly winds coming off Lake Superior, but those east winds might not be very strong on some of the days, and when that occurs temperatures will only be slightly cooler vs. what the temperatures will be farther inland.

No rain in the Northland Friday through Saturday morning, but scattered showers are possible Saturday afternoon into Saturday night mainly west of a line from International Falls to Hinckley with mainly dry weather continuing east of that line the way it looks now.
Note — Scattered showers are also possible on Sunday, and these showers might spread far enough east to affect northwest Wisconsin, Duluth and the North Shore, but if we do miss out on getting rain in Duluth this weekend, then will probably have to wait until late next week (after June 22) for our next shot to get some rain in Duluth.
