With an upper-level low sitting north of Minnesota and a NW flow aloft in place, one can’t rule out a shower or thunderstorm at times through this weekend, but overall, the pattern looks pretty dry in much of northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin over the next 5 days or so.
Rainfall anomalies for July 2023 are running about -0.75 inches to nearly -1.50″ below average with the exception to this in the Ashland area which is running about a quarter inch above average in rainfall so far this month.

Rainfall forecast through Sunday, July 16, 2023.

The very warm airmass which was over the Northland on Sunday has been pushed farther to the south today thanks to a cold front which moved through the area last night.

Temperatures are running about -5 to -15 degrees cooler in the Northland late this afternoon compared to late Sunday afternoon.

The Northland will be in a northwest flow aloft this week and even into early next week as a persistent mid/upper-level low pressure system churns slowly south/east out of Hudson Bay Canada. Now, if this type of pattern we’re to setup during the winter, we’d be looking at quite a cold snap, but this type of pattern in mid-July will lead to some pretty pleasant temperatures in our area for the next several days.
500mb forecast through July 18, 2023.

Temperatures through this weekend will be slightly below average in northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin, but again we’re not looking at anything that is abnormally chilly for this time of year. Note — Highs will mostly be in the 70s with lows in the 50s, but some 40s are likely in some locations this week.
Here’s the temperature anomaly forecast through July 16, 2023.
