An area of low pressure along with an upper-level trough is forecast to lift northeast across the northern Plains and upper Midwest late next week.
Temperatures will be on the mild side ahead of this system, and with the low tracking west of the Northland, this means that the majority of the precipitation we see will fall as rain (no icing) from late Wednesday into Thursday night.
There will be some cooler air that moves in behind the low on Friday, and this is when we could see some snow showers or a rain/snow mix in the Northland but very little if any snow accumulation is expected the way it looks now.

Looks like we could see a widespread quarter to half inch of rain in the Northland from Wednesday night through Thursday night with locally higher rainfall amounts possible.
Skies were mostly sunny this afternoon in far northeast Minnesota as well as in much of northwest Wisconsin, but another day of low clouds was common from north central to eastern Minnesota into extreme northwest Wisconsin.
Low clouds have been eroding from east to west this afternoon and the clearing like is getting closer to Duluth as of late this afternoon, but this clearing probably won’t make it to Duluth tonight as low clouds and areas of fog expand once again across the Northland.

Fog is expected to expand in coverage once again tonight with fog likely lingering into Sunday morning. Note: We may see the fog burn off allowing for some sunshine in parts of the Northland Sunday afternoon, similar to what occurred in parts of the area today.

Areas that saw clearing today had temperatures in the low to mid 40s this afternoon, while areas that stayed cloudy had temperatures mostly in the low to mid 30s.
Still no signs of any cold arctic air at least through mid-February.
