A windy Saturday in the Northland. Peak wind gusts from today.
Duluth: 41 mph
Ashland: 41 mph
Brainerd: 40 mph
Hibbing: 35 mph
International Falls: 33 mph
Our cold snap lasted all of one day.
Arctic airmass which was over the Northland on Friday has already moved off to the east and was over eastern Canada today. Note: It doesn’t look like will be seeing any more shots of arctic air (subzero temps) in the Northland for the rest of February.

Temperatures in northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin were running some +15 to +20 degrees warmer this afternoon compared to Friday afternoon’s temperatures.

0.6 inches of snow so far this month in Duluth.
Duluth needs an additional 1.6 inches of snow this month in order for February 2024 to not end up as the least snowy February on record, and that record is 2.1 inches set in February of 1896.
The EPS and GEFS models continue to offer a little hope that will see enough snow in Duluth which would prevent us from setting a new record for least amount of snow in February.
The pattern does look to turn more active toward the end of the month (around or after February 26th), but cold air could be lacking once again meaning that we may be seeing more rain than snow around here if we see a system pass through the upper Midwest late this month. Stay tuned.
