The Northland received a significant amount of rainfall from Tuesday afternoon into early Wednesday morning, with accumulations varying between 1 and 3 inches in different parts of the region.

-Approximately 55% of the days since April 1st have recorded at least 0.01 inches of precipitation in Duluth.

-This spring, our longest period without rain lasted four days, occurring several times: from April 3rd to 6th, April 12th to 15th, and May 11th to 14th.

  • 8:30 PM: Flash Flood. 2 S Automba, MN (Carlton County) There was a report of a road that washed out less than 1 mile to the north of this location around 7 PM, and other washouts along CR135 near CR12 around 8:30 PM.
  • 4:45 PM: Thunderstorm Wind Damage. 2 S Automba, MN (Carlton County) Report of a huge and healthy, but old, maple tree that snapped over a powerline. And a 2 foot in diameter pine that had fallen over CR135.

Record rainfall at Hibbing, Minnesota on Tuesday

Hibbing experienced 0.96 inches of rainfall on Tuesday, establishing a new record for 24-hour precipitation on June 4th. This surpasses the former record of 0.86 inches, which was set in 1944.
