The week ahead is expected to be mild and dry in the Northland, with occasional lake breezes that may keep temperatures slightly cooler near Lake Superior.
Afternoon temperatures in northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin will generally range from the 70s to the lower 80s at least through Saturday, although some areas could see temperatures in the mid-80s on certain days.
Today, a significant amount of wildfire smoke has been drifting southeast across Minnesota and into western, central, and southern Wisconsin. Fortunately, the majority of this smoke has stayed aloft in the atmosphere, resulting in a hazy sun but no significant air quality issues.
It’s likely that there will be more wildfire smoke to contend with in the upcoming days.

The amplified weather pattern persists today and is expected to remain throughout much of the week.
The Northland remains under a northwest flow aloft today, flanked by a ridge to the west and a deep trough to the east. However, in the coming days, the upper Midwest is expected to experience a shift to a southwest flow aloft, characterized by an upper trough over the western United States and a ridge over the Midwest.
