The major weather concern in the region remains the dense fog, which will persist at least through Monday morning.
Earlier today, widespread black ice caused slippery road conditions in the Northland, resulting from the combination of fog, moisture, and sub-freezing temperatures. Similar conditions are expected tonight into Monday morning.
Visibility of one quarter mile or less is anticipated in the fog from tonight through Noon on Monday.

Observe these temperatures from Sunday afternoon. Remarkably, we experienced cooler temperatures by Lake Superior today, an uncommon occurrence during the winter season.
1 PM temperatures ranged from 40 degrees at the Duluth Airport to 32 degrees in Superior and at Duluth Sky Harbor Airport.
This winter is off to a much colder start compared to last winter in Duluth. In fact, the average temperature is running 11.3 degrees colder in Duluth this winter compared to last winter thru late December.
Furthermore, Duluth experienced no subzero temperatures last December, whereas this December has recorded six subzero nights.

December 2024 (thru the 28th) average temperature in Duluth: 19.0 degrees, +1.5 degrees above normal
A low-pressure system is forecast to move southeast from northern Wyoming to western Missouri between Monday and Tuesday morning. This system will bring snow and mixed precipitation to South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, and southern Minnesota from Monday into early Tuesday.
