Hibbing, MN Breaks Low Temperature Record: May 24, 2025

Hibbing, Minnesota recorded a new low temperature record this morning, marking the second time this week with record-breaking temperatures. The temperature dropped to 26 degrees, surpassing the previous record low of 28 degrees for May 24th, which was set in 2004, 2009, and 2013.

Another frost advisory is in effect for early Sunday morning, impacting parts of northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin. Temperatures as low as 36 degrees are expected, leading to frost formation.

Duluth last hit a temperature of 70 degrees or more on May 15th, with a high of 77 degrees.

In May, Duluth typically has 6 days with temperatures of at least 70 degrees. The highest recorded was 19 days in May 1988. This month, Duluth has reached 70 degrees on 8 days.

The upcoming nights are expected to remain cool, but afternoon temperatures will be fairly close to the seasonal average for late May. It appears that Duluth will finally experience temperatures reaching the 70s again later next week, with the possibility of even hitting 80 degrees.

The pattern remains significantly amplified today, featuring pronounced troughs over the southern Rockies and the northeast Pacific, with an additional upper-level system situated over the upper Midwest.

Certain regions of the Northland experienced a few rain showers today; however, the majority remained dry.

The highest rainfall totals in the Northland today were observed in Orr, MN, with 0.07 inches of rain, followed by Cook, MN, which recorded 0.04 inches of rain as of 6 PM.

Isolated showers may occur again on Sunday and Memorial Day, but there should be less rain than today.
