Temperature and Rainfall Trends in Summer 2025

Meteorological summer 2025, spanning from June 1 to August 31, has come to an end, so let’s review how this summer turned out.

Average temperatures in Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin were near normal, staying within a degree above or below the usual range.

Take a look at the temperature anomalies in the Northland during the summer of 2025.

Superior, WI: +1.1 degrees above normal
Embarrass, MN: +0.9 degrees above normal
Hibbing, MN: +0.7 degrees above normal
Brainerd, MN: +0.4 degrees above normal
International Falls, MN: +0.3 degrees above normal
Duluth, MN: -0.5 degrees below normal

-Minnesota’s average temperature reached 68.3 degrees this summer, just 0.6 degrees above the usual state average. It was slightly warmer than last year, with a statewide temperature anomaly of +0.5 degrees above normal.

-In Duluth, the summer of 2025 was 1.4 degrees cooler than the previous summer.
  • This summer in Duluth saw 22 days with highs of at least 80 degrees, just shy of the average of 23 days. Last summer, there were 25 days with temperatures reaching 80 or higher.
  • This summer in Duluth, 46% of the days were cooler than average, while 45% were warmer than average.
  • Duluth has experienced 28 days with thunder so far this year, while the average typically ranges between 30 and 40 days.

-Minnesota’s average total precipitation was 14.52 inches, 2.26 inches above the normal. This summer’s rainfall was 0.78 inches less than last summer’s total.

-During the summer of 2025, Duluth received 8.22 inches of rainfall, which was 4.32 inches less than the 12.54 inches recorded the previous summer.
