Windy and cooler weather is expected over the next few days, accompanied by occasional rain.
Rain is expected in Duluth starting Thursday and lasting through the weekend. It won’t be constant, as there will be several dry periods scattered throughout.
The strongest winds in the Northland are expected near Lake Superior, starting early Thursday morning and lasting through Friday night, with easterly gusts ranging from 20 to 40 mph.
Small Craft Advisories are in place (pink area on the map) for the western and southern shores of Lake Superior from early Thursday morning through Friday, with maximum wave heights expected to reach up to 6 feet.

Note: Temperatures are set to cool down over the next few days, with highs mostly ranging between the 50s and 60s.
Over the next few days, the rain will be partly due to a frontal boundary located south of our area, while an upper low and trough move north and east into the upper Midwest.
Some minor instability will be over parts of the Northland, possibly causing a few isolated thunderstorms the next few days. However, overall thunderstorm activity in our area with this system is expected to remain minimal.

Plenty of rain with embedded thunderstorms occurring this afternoon south of the Northland, and this is part of the same system that will slowly lift north/east into our area over the next few days.

Rainfall amounts of about half an inch or more are still being predicted for Duluth by the Euro, AI, and GEFS models through 7 AM on Sunday.
Note: Duluth is currently 0.11 inches below the average precipitation for this month and 6.19 inches below normal since the start of the year.
