Note: With just 0.49 inches of precipitation recorded this month in Duluth, October 2025 is shaping up to be the 8th driest October on record—unless the system on Tuesday brings some rain.
The highest single-day rainfall in Duluth so far this month is 0.18 inches, recorded on the 12th.
There are still some discrepancies in the computer models regarding how far east the rain will extend early next week. However, the EPS and GEFS models suggest there’s at least a chance of rain across much of the Northland, primarily in the Monday night to Tuesday time frame. Rainfall amounts could range from about 0.05 to 0.25 inches, with the higher amounts most likely around the Brainerd Lakes area and the lower amounts in the Arrowhead and North Shore regions.
Where’s the snow? It’s late October, and while it’s not surprising to see snow in the Northland by now, there’s none in sight. It seems likely that Duluth might go the entire month of October without any snow at all.
In Duluth, the average snowfall in October is 2.7 inches, while the yearly average for the entire snow season is 90.2 inches.
Since 2020, Duluth has experienced three Octobers with below-average snowfall. Of those, one year ended up with above-average annual snowfall: 93.4 inches in 2022. However, the other two years saw below-average annual snowfall, with 38.7 inches in 2024 and 55.5 inches in 2025.
Since 2020, there have been two Octobers with above-average snowfall—one resulting in below-average annual snowfall in 2021 (76.4 inches) and the other contributing to a record-breaking snow season in Duluth in 2023 (140.1 inches).
