In the next few days, a strong trough will move into the northern Plains, while a ridge stays over the Great Lakes and eastern Canada. This ridge will push the trough southeast, keeping most of the rain away from northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin on Tuesday. However, areas in the far west and south, including International Falls, Brainerd, Hinckley, and Pine City, might get light rain with totals around a tenth of an inch, especially near the Brainerd Lakes. Another exception could be near Lake Superior, where northeast winds crossing the lake might produce lake effect rain showers on Tuesday if the temperature difference between the surface and higher altitudes is significant enough.
Note: If the system on Tuesday doesn’t bring much rain to the Northland, we likely won’t see any significant rainfall or snowfall in the area for at least the next 7 days.
Over an inch of rain is expected in the next few days across parts of eastern North Dakota and far northwest Minnesota, with significantly lower amounts further east.

The NAM model indicates a chance of lake effect rain near Lake Superior on Tuesday, particularly along the North Shore and Twin Ports area, with possible rainfall amounts ranging from 0.05 to 0.15 inches if this occurs.
