Today marked the season’s first significant snowfall, affecting eastern Minnesota and far northwest Wisconsin. This event was driven by a potent upper trough and low-pressure system that ascended northeast from northeast Iowa into central Wisconsin. Intense upward motion near and northwest of the upper low’s path induced rain to transition to snow through dynamic cooling. Additionally, there were reports of thundersnow in areas near and west of the Twin Cities today.
