With little to no wind at the surface or higher up, along with lingering moisture, foggy nights and mornings continue to dominate much of the Northland. This pattern is expected to stick around at least through midweek, but stronger winds aloft could develop later in the week, potentially reducing the foggy conditions—only time will tell.
In Duluth, 12 out of 22 days this month have had visibility reduced to a quarter mile or less due to dense fog. Only three days this month—September 1st, 5th, and 17th—have been completely fog-free.
Inland from Lake Superior, widespread fog and low clouds cleared to reveal a mix of sun and clouds this afternoon. However, closer to the lake, areas of fog and low cloudiness persisted throughout the day.
Low clouds and fog will cover much of the Northland tonight, gradually clearing throughout Tuesday.

A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect for all of northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin from tonight through Tuesday morning, with visibility reduced to one-quarter mile or less in dense fog.

Snow is expected in parts of Wyoming and Colorado, with a winter weather advisory in place from late tonight through Tuesday afternoon. Areas above 8,500 feet could see 3 to 8 inches or more of snowfall.

The remainder of this month in the Northland appears to be relatively dry, with no significant indications from computer models of any organized rain systems this week or early next week.

After a chilly start to the month, a recent warming trend has pushed average monthly temperatures above normal in much of northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin, though a cool pocket still remains near Lake Superior.

Looking at the temperature anomalies across the US, the eastern part of the country is cooler than average, while most other regions are experiencing temperatures that are near or above average this month.
