An upper-level low hovered over the Upper Midwest today, bringing chilly air and scattered showers. With temperatures aloft around -2 to -3°C in northeastern Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin, some of the precipitation fell as snow or graupel (soft hail), even though surface temperatures were in the upper 30s to 40s.
Scattered showers of rain, snow, and graupel are continuing to move south across parts of northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin this evening, and this scattered precipitation is expected to persist through most of the night. Snow accumulation, if any, should be minimal, with only a light dusting in some areas, but most places that experience snow likely won’t see any accumulation tonight.

On Saturday, the upper low will move to the southeast, but light rain or snow showers may persist in parts of the Northland. Most of the area, however, is expected to remain dry this weekend.
A strong system with its warm and cold fronts will move through the area on Sunday, bringing gusty winds as the main impact. Winds will come from the southwest on Sunday, shifting to the west Sunday night into Monday. Gusts of 20 to 35 mph are expected across much of the Northland during this time.
Looking ahead to next week, another system is expected to move across the upper Midwest around midweek, possibly bringing a few showers as it passes through. Later in the week, a stronger system could impact the Northland with rain or even some snow, though its track and details remain uncertain for now.
