Parts of the Northland may see a mix of snow, rain, and some patchy freezing rain from Monday night into Tuesday as a trough moves east from the northern Plains. This could be the first of several chances for precipitation this week, with another system possibly bringing snow between late Wednesday and early Friday, and yet another potential system for next weekend.

Precipitation totals from this first system aren’t looking too impressive in the Northland, but there’s a chance for up to about 0.07 inches of ice to build up in the black outlined area for a few hours Tuesday morning, mostly before 10 AM.
Most of Tuesday’s snowfall will stay in Ontario, Canada, but the southern edge could brush far northern Minnesota and the Arrowhead, bringing about 0.5 to 2 inches of snow.
…Long Range Trends…
Computer models are pointing to an active weather pattern that could bring some impressive precipitation totals to northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin over the next couple of weeks.
The ensemble models (EPS, GEFS, and CMCE) are predicting 1 to 2 inches or more of precipitation in the Northland through the morning of April 13.
This precipitation will likely come in the form of snow, rain, and a wintry mix, which could also include some ice accumulations.
The chances of a more significant winter storm hitting the Northland are also increasing in early April.
…Temperatures…
If you’re away from Lake Superior, temperatures this afternoon are in the 50s and 60s, reaching 70s in southern Minnesota. However, near Lake Superior, temperatures remain in the 30s due to a northeast breeze from the cold lake waters.
Monday’s temperatures are shaping up to be even more remarkable than today’s, reaching the 70s and low 80s in southern Minnesota, while lingering in the 30s near Lake Superior.
