Much of the Northland experienced a hot late spring day, with temperatures climbing well into the 80s and even reaching the lower 90s in some areas this afternoon.
Even though it was a warm day, only Hibbing tied their daily record high for May 29th with a temperature of 88 degrees. This record was originally set in 1999 and matched again in 2006.
International Falls came within just 1 degree of their record high today, while Duluth was only 2 degrees short of the May 29th record high on Friday.

On Friday in the Twin Ports area, temperatures hit 86 in Hermantown, 85 at Duluth Airport, and a warm 88 at Superior Airport. Even Duluth Sky Harbor Airport reached 73 degrees, thanks to a much lighter onshore wind.
Today, Friday, May 29, 2026, International Falls hit a high of 91, marking the first 90-degree or warmer day of the year. Typically, the first 90-degree day there falls around June 24, with the earliest on record being April 21, 1980. Interestingly, last year’s first 90-degree day came on May 11.
Duluth hit a high of 85 today (Friday, May 29, 2026), making it the third day this month with temperatures reaching at least 80 degrees—one more than the May average of two.
A stronger push of cool lake air near Lake Superior on Saturday will keep temperatures in the 50s close to the lake, while warmer conditions persist farther inland with highs ranging from the mid-70s to mid-80s.
East winds are expected to stick around near Lake Superior for several days starting Saturday, keeping the area cooler by the lake.
The dry weather looks set to stick around in northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin at least through Wednesday morning.
