Rainfall Recap + Labor Day Outlook

Weather conditions varied widely across the region today. In northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin, low clouds, fog, and mist dominated, with temperatures mostly in the 60s and cool east breezes coming off Lake Superior. Farther west and south, however, it was warmer and sunnier, with muggy conditions pushing temperatures into the 80s as far north as Little Falls and Cambridge in central-eastern Minnesota.

Expect similar conditions through Labor Day (Monday), with east winds near Lake Superior keeping highs in the 60s, while inland areas warm into the 70s and 80s. Fog, drizzle, and low clouds will impact parts of the Northland, primarily overnight and into the morning. Along the lakeshore, these conditions may persist throughout the day, though whether the low clouds clear to allow occasional partial sun will vary from day to day this weekend.

Today, a frontal boundary extends from the western Dakotas through southern Minnesota to central Wisconsin. It will shift slightly west and south over the weekend before moving east as a cold front early next week, expected to reach the Northland between Tuesday and early Wednesday morning.

Dew points reached the steamy 70s today across central and southern Minnesota, extending east into central and southern Wisconsin, while readings in the 60s were observed farther north. Muggy conditions are expected to persist into early next week, with the highest dew points mainly inland from Lake Superior.

Note: Showers and scattered thunderstorms are expected to return to the Twin Ports early next week, likely between Monday and Tuesday, but any showers or storms before Monday are expected to remain well west of the Twin Ports.
