A few showers possible Saturday-Saturday night; Rainy system early to mid-next week; A little snow possible late next week

A low-pressure area, along with its associated warm and cold fronts, is expected to move across the Northland from Saturday afternoon into the night. Ahead of this system, warm air and moisture will be carried by southerly winds, which, together with lifting forces near the surface boundaries, may result in scattered showers across the Northland during Saturday and into the evening. Additionally, isolated thunderstorms could occur, particularly over northern Wisconsin on Saturday night, as a rise in elevated CAPE (indicating instability) moves north/northeast from southern Minnesota. With mid-level lapse rates anticipated to be quite steep on Saturday (around 7.5 c/m), any thunderstorms that form could potentially produce small, non-severe hail.

Saturday afternoon is expected to be quite warm, with temperatures in the 60s and 70s across northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin, and the 80s probable in southwest Minnesota.

Note: An east wind is expected to maintain significantly cooler temperatures (in the 40s) near Lake Superior on Saturday, affecting areas below the hill in Duluth.

A significant trough and low-pressure area are expected to move northeast from the Rockies early next week. This system is likely to cause a widespread rain event in the Northland region from Monday through Wednesday, with the majority of the rainfall anticipated between Tuesday and early Wednesday.

Expected rainfall totals range from approximately 0.50 inches to over 1 inch in northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin due to the system arriving early next week.

By the end of next week, there may be a possibility of light snowfall in parts of the Northland due to some colder air moving into the region following a system that is expected to pass through the area early to mid-next week.
