Warm Weather Forecast for Northeast Minnesota and Northwest Wisconsin

There’s a good chance the warm weather pattern will persist in northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin this week and into early to mid-next week, with a 70 to 80% likelihood of above-average temperatures from October 4-8.

Locations near Lake Superior will experience a brief cooling trend on Tuesday and Wednesday as east winds bring afternoon temperatures down to the 50s and 60s. However, the warmth is expected to return later in the week.

Today’s high temperatures and their deviation from the norm for September 28.

-The record high temperatures for September 28 were set just last year in Duluth and Hibbing, reaching 82 and 84 degrees respectively.

-The high of 80 at International Falls today, September 28, is a little unusual since the average date for the last 80-degree temperature for the year is on September 15th, however the latest last 80 on record occurred on October 20 in 1953.

-Since 1897, there have been five September 28ths at International Falls with highs of 80 degrees or warmer: 84 degrees in 2021, 82 degrees in 2011, 81 degrees in 2024, and 80 degrees in both 1922 and 1921.

Little to no rain is expected in northeast Minnesota or northwest Wisconsin through Friday. However, computer models hint at a potentially wetter and more active weather pattern emerging next weekend into the following week, though it’s still quite a ways off.

Note: Duluth is about 7 inches short of its normal precipitation since January 1st.

A few showers might pop up across parts of the Northland on the last day of September, as energy moves northeast through the Upper Midwest on Tuesday. However, any rain that forms doesn’t seem likely to amount to much for now.

Looks like the Rockies might get some snow next weekend!
