Today, an upper-level low and trough were advancing southeastward across the upper Midwest and western Great Lakes, while a significant upper-level ridge, featuring 500mb heights reaching 6002 decameters, spanned a vast area of the western United States.
Today, temperatures fluctuated significantly across the region, influenced by varying sky conditions.
In areas where sunny skies prevailed, temperatures reached the 80s to around 90 degrees this afternoon, whereas regions with cloudier skies experienced temperatures primarily in the 70s.
Note: Today was an unusual day with temperatures in northern Minnesota being warmer than those in southern Minnesota.
This afternoon, widespread heat covered the northern and central Plains, extending to the western U.S., in areas near and beneath the upper ridge.

The Northland will experience an area of low pressure along with a warm front and cold front this Saturday. This system may bring some showers and isolated thunderstorms as it passes through the region on Saturday.
